Beginner Class Information Sheet
What can I expect from the course?
The course will be 6 weeks, 2 hours per week. I’ll teach you how to wedge the clay, centre clay on the pottery wheel, and make vessels. We will start with cup and bowl shapes and once you get the hang of it you can make whatever you want to. I would encourage you to jump on Pinterest and start looking at what kind of shapes you like in your favourite mugs and bowls. Previous students have made vases, planters, cups and bowls in the last session as well as some pots with fitted lids. The pieces you make can be decorated with underglaze slip or you can use the glazes that I have made up in the studio.
What does the course cost?
The course costs $415. This will include the glazing and firing costs for all the pieces you make. I will provide 10kg of clay to get you started and if you need more you can buy it from me for $3.50 /kg or buy a 10kg bag for $30. We will be using a white clay called PB103 which can be painted or glazed and is very smooth and plastic, and ideal for every skill level.
What should I wear?
Please wear clothes that can get dirty. Towels and aprons will be provided but it is inevitable that clay may get on your clothing (it does wash out easily). Please tie back long hair and make sure your fingernails are nice and short.
Where are the classes held?
My studio is situated in Balhannah, in the Adelaide Hills. It is in an old dairy, and looks out onto open paddocks. The space is very rustic. It is approximately 30 minutes from Adelaide.
